3 Ways To A Happier Life

Hi, what am I doing posting on a Wednesday during school?

*ooh, bad girl truanting*
*ooh, bad girl not working her butt off unnecessarily*
*ooh, bad girl!*

Hehehe…

I will have you know that I can disprove all the above statements.

One: I am not truanting. Though every child takes the odd sick day which isn’t really a sick day, I can’t afford to anymore because we work quite a bit in school. So no, I woke up this morning with a splitting headache. And I’m telling you, I can sympathise with those bog body victims who got smashed with an axe on the skull before being tossed away. Ok, maybe not really :P

What is with the ridiculous ‘share’ business!

***1 1/2 hrs sleep later***

Two: I am working my butt off. Even though I am at home. I did my ancient history (bog bodies, so cool!), my modern history (ILY JFK), maths (ugh) and later I will be doing some English (double ugh)

***2 hrs sleep later***

I liked 2 hrs later :)

Three: I am not a bad girl. Um ok, maybe I am. Because I made some cookies. Because I was feeling no headache-y and well, frankly cookies are something which really make one feel better anyway, don’t you agree :)?

Why did I make these cookies specifically? What you have to understand is this long and complicated equation:

3x – 4y/3xy + 24b + (-2)*-44x (squared) + 24/78 – (-0..987) + pi/pi x 3

I saw coloured spots too after reading that ‘equation’

Translated into English: M&Ms = Cookies = Happy JJ & I = Lots of Modern History :D

See how difficult mathematicians make life? When it is really so simple :)

First I am on an M&M kick (obviously you saw that here...). Then I found this gorgeous recipe and changed it quite a bit because that’s just what I do as you all know! So working together my love + a huge jumbo pack of mixed M&Ms (malted crispy, peanut and milk oh how I adore you) + this recipe, I made cookies.

In order: Peanut, Crispy Malt and Milk Chocolate

Now you know me. Who is JJ? Maybe you should go meet her here (though never fear, you guys will be meeting again really soon ;)) She is my Modern History buddy. Together we are studying the infamous assassination of JFK, which is seriously interesting and I am not even being a touch sarcastic – remember how I said I liked writing ancient history essays? It stands but now includes MH.

My Puffy Freshly Baked Beauties

Anyway, we have approximately 5 trees worth of sheets between us of evidence which need to be categorised and noted so we can eventually write our essay. Fun? These cookies will make it fun. I promise :)

See? Stacking then eating cookies = fun!

So you see my necessity behind making these drop dead delicious cookies??? (Sorry JJ, but you can’t get to them till Friday and if you think I would wait that long, you are crazy :P)

JJ, you are one my best friends but there are always limits to even the greatest of friendships…

So where does my title for this post come in?

Life at its happiest…

Besides M&Ms, another things that make me happy are chewy cookies. The chewier my cookies the higher my um, happy meter goes :)

So 3 ways to a happier life = 3 ways to a chewier cookie
The first two of them were my changes:

  • Brown sugar, all brown sugar – I didn’t even touch the caster stuff, it was nice and brown, so much brown (for variation, use dark brown and light brown ;))

    All hail!

  • Brown butter (softened butter to melted butter is ok, but the depth of nutty caramelisation is only possible through browned butter…)

    All-to-be Hail!

  • Adding an extra egg yolk. I have learnt an important thing – extra egg white means crunchier, extra egg yolk means more pliable… yes please :D

Extra tips:

  • I pressed a couple of M&Ms on top before baking to give them a pretty top but it didn’t work the best because the M&Ms were not everywhere – as soon as a batch comes out of the oven, press in a few into the soft, cooling batter so it hardens around the candy piece for best results :D

    My little heaven balls :)

  • Use a hint of coffee essence and a pinch of salt to really accentuate flavour ;)
  • Clip on a nose peg otherwise you will devour the entire batter before baking – I am just saying…

Is this not to die for? (Post dry ingredients)

And just on a side note, tomorrow is an important Indian day: The Festival of Colours called Holi :D

By making these cookies, I have also eaten two flavours in one bite (I don’t like ‘killed two birds with one stone – we are not so cruel anymore!) because their colourfulness celebrates this festival and they will help keep concentration during a major study sesh – score right? :D

Colours of Holi – YES!

Well, I am off for another hour or so of sleep – Enjoy these Brown Butter Mixed M&M Chewy Cookies :D

    • Thanks – they actually are addictive and dangerous! I am absolutely sure there are vegan M&Ms in the world since the candy is such a diet staple and necessity :D

I knew the answer to that math equations before you told us. It just had be. Are those crispy malt m&m’s like malted milk balls. I need some of those. Cookies make me happy even when they are not stacked. Get some rest and I am glad you are feeling better. Happy Happy Happy.

    • You smart cookie you ;) – Or you psychic all knowing cookie lover :D
I am so glad you liked this post! And got very happy :)
Yes these M&Ms are like malted milk balls but the chocolate coating around them has no malt flavour – still amazing though!

      Happy Holi :)

  11. Kim Bee says:

These look so good. I was laughing my head off at this post. When I was in high school I skipped class one day and sat outside the school to talk to a friend. Imagine how upset the teacher was when I said I was sick the day the next day and he told me if I was so sick why was I sitting right outside his classroom gabbing for an hour with a friend. Er, ya, you want to be careful where you park your butt when skipping class. Lol!

  12. coloreful joy! XD

I astualy had forgotten holi for a short time today. Had gonne out for shopping when I saw the first kids roaming about with soem few bags of powdered colroe. my nightmare! Luckily I was spared. those colores r so bad for the skin, I wish they would use at least organic colores.

    nearly forgot…

    happy holi!

  13. Ah, M&M cookies take me back to my childhood. Nice soft, chewy cookies with a little crunch from the M&M shell…memories :) I don’t miss being in school but I do miss those cookies :) And, the giant peanut M&M’s were my favorites…

  14. Eliot says:

Hope you are feeling better. Sometimes everyone needs a sick day or I like to call them “mental health days”! These cookies look amazing and I appreciate all those great tips! (I love the cat cookie!)

    • Haha the cat cookie was definitely impulsive paint work :P
I am so glad you enjoyed these cookies! And thank you my day of ‘mental sickness recovery’ worked :D

      Happy Holi :)

  15. Paula says:

Good to know and extra egg yolk will yield a chewier cookie! These are the perfect snack t have with, uh…study buddies!

    • That’s the one :D – though those little droppers of food colouring won’t get you anywhere in the colour war mayhem in the streets :P
Glad you liked the cookies – and fine I will save one for her because you asked ;)

      Happy Holi :)

  16. Susie says:

I love candy in my cookies….seriously it’s the little things in life that makes us happy. I’m totally with you what is this share business? Everyone gets their own bag and then everyone is happy. :) The cookies look yummy I could eat like 1 or 5 right now. I’m trying to detox from sweets right now and that really isn’t working for me. LOL

    • Good to see we are on the same page for so many different things :D
You are so positive and upbeat you definitely do not need a sweets detox – tried it once but boy has that memory been blanked out ;)
      Thank you and enjoy!!

      Happy Holi :)

  17. I’ve never heard of crispy malt M&Ms — you can just pass me that bag! Your melted browned butter and sugar looks delicious, but I always want crisp cookies rather than chewy ones.

    • Um… I don’t share m&m bags :P
I am glad you enjoyed these cookies – though to make it crunchier, add an extra egg white instead of yolk and use all caster sugar – also melt or cream the butter but do not brown :)

      Happy Holi :)
      Choc Chip Uru

  18. Really now, you are just TORTURING me with these beautiful cookies. I have a real weakness for cookies and especially m&m cookies, and yours truly are the best looking ones I’ve ever seen. If I make them I will eat them all…I mean all. But maybe I can think of someone to take them to and still make this recipe! :) Thanks for sharing and good luck with that math..yikes, never my best subject.

  19. What an awesome way to spend your sick day! I would totally feel better after some chewy cookies chock full of delicious M&Ms! Brown butter cookies sound amazing, I’m totally making these! Yum!!

    • Couldn’t agree with you more – these certainly cheered me up when I was sick so hopefully they will make you feel extra happy when you make them :D

      Happy Holi :)
      Choc Chip Uru

  20. Oh yum!!! M&M cookies :) I’ve been meaning to make some ~ I’m really strange I don’t really like peanut butter but I love peanut M&Ms ~

That jumbo bag is MASSIVE!!! Dunno if I can get such a big bag here!!! :D

    • Well if not PB, I’d say peanut m&ms are the next best thing – im sure you would adore them in these cookies :D
And as for not finding a huge bag, when in doubt by 3-4…

      Happy Holi :)
      Choc Chip Uru

    • Thank you – these cookies definitely stay on my mind – and I am glad to have given you food for thought (pun intended :P) so I can’t wait to see your seasalt coffee shortbread…mmmm :D

      Happy Holi :)

  21. Making cookies is a great way to spend a day off- intended or not. I love history myself and enjoyed it much in school, I enjoyed most stories about mystical Egypt, pagans and Slavic rituals . Still do. Its that witch in me that craves some mystical magic in this world and you do find it in myths and ancient celebrations. On a side note the cookies look very fun, and I bet you had loads of fun doing them. Im tempted to have few myself. Thanks for posting and all the best, hugs and kisses ;)

  22. Dana says:

These look delicious and chewy, just the way I like my cookies! Prefect for an afternoon snack or late night snack! I hope you are feeling better! :-)

    • Thanks :D – I prefer these warmed with ice cream as a midnight snack – and luckily I can eat ice cream because thank you for asking I am better now ;)

      Happy Holi :)
      Choc Chip Uru

  23. These do have a whimsical look to them and make me think of my childhood-M&M’s and sprinkles do that to me. I could definitely put away a lot of these tasty gems. They are a great remedy for what ails you-hope you feel better.

  24. Liz says:

Your body was telling you to take a day off! What fabulous cookies…my kids would be thrilled to come home to a cookie jar full of these beauties! Hope you’re feeling better today:)

    • I agree – sometimes sleep is all you need :)
I am feeling better thank you and I know these cookies certainly lit up my day! Hope you and your family enjoy :D

      Happy Holi :)
      Choc Chip Uru

  25. I have to agree that studying can be very tedious and a bit of distraction i.e. cookie inventing can be just the thing for a flagging brain and to focus the mind. And of course you are mulling over the points you wish to raise in your essay or working out quadruple equations in your head while you bake! A win Win in my book (no pun intended) :-)
I think your colourful cookies will be perfect for the Festival of colour too! Wow! You are just toooo clever. LOL

  26. beccysfoodies says:

    they. look. amazing.
and i totally agree on the m&m flavors!! peanut and crispy malt are the BEST!

and might i just say: those tips are so handy!! now i know exactly what to do when i want crispy/chewie, nutty caramelized biscuits :)

thanks for another great post! :)

  27. I had a headache all day yesterday and today it feel like I’ve button up my collar so tight it’s squeezing my neck! Aaagh!! If only I had one or two of your cookies, I know I’d get better faster!!
