Teacher: If you could go anywhere in the universe, where would you go? What would you do?
Student #1: I would strap myself to a comet, so when I raced through the sky like a shooting star, I could grant everyone’s wishes. I would wear a pink and white jumpsuit, with stars on the sides, and goggles with my hair flying behind me.
Student #2: I would take my ice skates and participate in the Annual Universe Ice Skating Competition, and beat aliens with three eyes and five legs, with my routine on the rings of Saturn
Student #3: I would dive into a black hole and swim towards the light at the other end. I would disappear and come out into a world where all the movies are reality, and normal life is what they watch and wish for.
Student #4: I would find the edge of the universe and then fall off. I don’t know what I would do then. I don’t really know what is there…
Student #5: I would eat extra-terrestrial food. Those space burgers and those shakes made from stardust. I would burp out newly born stars and place them in the sky.
Student #6: I would become the first real Miss Universe. I would beat those purple haired zoinks no problem. I would say, in my acceptance speech, that I wish for universe peace.
Student #7: I would date an alien. It would really annoy my parents, more than that guy on a motorbike for sure. We would try to get married but stupid planets would be against inter-specie marriage so we would protest.
I just saw Star Trek: Into Darkness. I saw explosions and flames, Benedict Cumberbatch looking so attractive when playing a genetically superior being. Oh wait, he is that in real life so I suppose he was just acting evil. I saw Chris Pine’s crazy blue eyes and sighed. I saw Zachary Quinto cry.
Honestly, it was quite an otherworldly experience, a supernatural phenomenon which got me wanting to ask you – What would you want to do if you found yourself in space?
Personally, I would like a mad man in a blue box who would whisk me away to fight angels which are demonic and make me cry in Trenzalore, but we are all entitled to our own desires. Where would you go?
As you contemplate, please make sure you have a plate of brownies. Specifically these ultra gooey, utterly indulgent brownies.
They are definitely out of this world and if I went on a universe peace-keeping mission, I would bring along a tray. Or 5.
Spiky Nutella Milky Way Brownies
Adapted from: Liz’s Milky Way Brownies
Ingredients:
Brownies (I adapted the brownies from my cookbook, Mastering the Art of Baking – my changes are in bold)
- 190g dark chocolate, chopped
- 50g Nutella
- 80g butter, room temperature
- 165g caster sugar
- 65g brown sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla essence
- 50g plain flour
- 3 tbs cocoa powder
- 1 cup mini chocolate chips
Fluff Layer
Caramel Layer
Other
- 1 bag dark chocolate chips
Method:
Brownies
- Preheat oven to 170 degrees C. Line a baking tray (18x28cm) with baking paper, leaving a bit hanging over the sides
- Put chocolate, butter and Nutella in small saucepan and mix over low heat until smooth and melted – can use a bain marie if you have more time and want smoother finish
- Beat eggs and both sugars with vanilla until light and thick
- Whisk in chocolate mixture
- Sift the cocoa and flour on top and mix until just combined
- Sprinkle and stir through the mini chocolate chips
- Pour into tin and bake for 25 – 30 minutes or until a skewer inserted, comes out with gooey crumbs (Mine was a little too under-baked – do not do that otherwise cutting the slice is very difficult)
- Transfer to a wire rack to cool in tin (you guys loved it on my Facebook page!)
- Refrigerate until needed (or cut into little squares after cooling and dust with cocoa powder)
Fluff Layer
- In a small saucepan, combine all fluff ingredients and stir over low heat until marshmallow fluff begins to loosen and the chips melt
- Combine the ingredients until a spreadable, smooth mixture forms – this will take time
- Spread over the cooled brownies and refrigerate again
Caramel Layer
- Melt ingredients together over low heat (slow process)
- Let cool for 10 minutes before slowly spreading it over the brownie – I poured mine in the middle then stretched it out as it cools very fast, so work quick!
- Note: If too quickly done, it will be too hot to stay on brownie and coat the sides!
Final
- Into the caramel, litter lots of dark chips to make the whole slice seem like a porcupine! (or can top with melted chocolate)
- Cut into small pieces (very rich) after chilling whole slice for at least 2 hours.
Dream of the Milky Way and enjoy every second!
YUM! These are some incredible brownies, Uru! And sure to thrill my family!!!

Haha that’s sweet! Ok here are some ways to substitute marshmallows for marshmallow fluff: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf27030552.tip.html

Thank you for sharing this amazing bar cake. I LOVE Mars bars. I’ve never worked with marshmallow fluff but the ooey gooey results when combined with the melted chocolate … just decadent. I don’t know that I could get all those chocolate chips lined up so perfectly. Maybe I’d just sprinkle chocolate shavings on top instead. Or maybe a chocolate ganache coating that would harden and resemble the Mars bar even more.
PS: I made a sweet recipe yesterday as well. Pretty decadent because of the filling though much simpler in construction than this magnificent treat. 🙂
