What Up Weather?

Oh. Hi Nadal. Hi Djokovic. Ahahahaha *twirls hair around finger*

Oh, you are just so pro at tennis, I, like, watch every single match. Nadal, in your last match, that referee was just SO out of place, I mean how dare he right?

And Djokovic, you know, you should totalleeee teach me sometime. Maybe we can work on my backhand sometime?

So, obviously, this post is referencing Nadal and Djokovic because they were in the Finals today for the US Open and for the first time, I somewhat diligently watched a sporting match which wasn’t football or rugby and enjoyed it! So I figured I should share the experience with you 😛

But that is all about tennis I really want to share, me flirting with the TV, because talking about sports too long has the remarkable ability to send me to sleep faster than a lullaby. Hmm.

Nadal won btw. Just thought you should know this slightly important detail. You sports buffs you 😉

Oh and before I continue further, let me just tell you ‘le dumb girl’ played by yours truly in the above scenario is an exaggeration. I KNOW that the ‘official’ is called an umpire, not a referee, gosh guys, a little faith? 😉

Anyway, the real reason behind posting today is neither exotically named tennis players nor to tell you about a sleeveless black dress (which actually, unfortunately, does not exist in my wardrobe right now :P). It is actually to talk about the weather.

*Nods*, nothing’s wrongs guys, nothing, but I believe I am not the only one down under feeling what I am. Hi, hello, Spring? Yes, you, the time where mother earth comes into bloom, sending flowers and new born babies our way and showering the world with produce. Yes, that’s right, Spring, the season of warmth and sunshine and beauty.

Not fires, scorching temperature and dusty winds.

Bugger off. It is as if Summer had a few emotional problems and decided to get all bossy up in Spring’s face and takeover her time. Not cool bro.

Just over a week ago, the temperatures were of 19 degrees, balmy days and cool nights. Aaah August, I miss you ever so.

Then, it hit September and BAM. 30 degrees C. Already.

I just have one question. Teensy, tiny question. Correct me if I am wrong of course.

Autumn (March – May) ——–> Winter (June – August) ———-> SUMMER (September – November) ———–> ????

Oh dear. Oh my. Oh, oh look, I am sweating already.

Well, I cannot control the emotional distress that the seasons’ manager is obviously going through (girls, I think you know exactly which distress I mean :P) but we should combat it with our own way.

You will need:

  • A freezer
  • An ice cream machine
  • An AC (optional)
  • Oreos. Many boat loads of Oreos.

Trust me, because if you make this once, you will be making it again. Have no doubt about it 😉
It is creamy and delicious, really filling and sweet and gives you cookies ‘n’ cream in both a crunchy and creamy texture which just makes it all the better 😀

Extreme Cookies ‘n’ Cream Ice Cream – While rereading this, I realised just how much this rhymes – a total poet and I didn’t know it 😛
Source: A Choc Chip Uru original (similar method to my popcorn ice cream, which I promise to remake :D)

Printable Recipe 🙂

Ingredients:

  • 300ml full cream milk + 1/2 cup extra
  • 250ml thickened cream
  • 180g caster sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 2x200g double stuffed Oreos

Method:

  1. Chop 150g of the Oreos into rough chunks
  2. Heat 300ml milk, thickened cream, chopped Oreos and half of the sugar in a saucepan until simmering or just below boiling point

  3. Remove from stove and let cool and thicken so the Oreos infuse its flavour into the mixture (the Oreos will dissolve into the batter)
  4. Sieve  the mixture through a fine strainer (eat the leftover Oreos, they are like Oreos dipped in milk but better)

    **This mixture sieved will be cluggy, cement grey and and thick as anything – that is fine 🙂

  5. Add in the remaining 1/2 cup milk into the mixture and stir together until combined and smooth mixture (do not heat together otherwise the mixture will thicken again)

  6. Whisk the egg yolks and remaining sugar and vanilla together until thick and pale (ribbon stage)

  7. Still whisking, pour in the half the milk mixture, mix through and then pour the whole mixture together, including the other half of the milk mixture, into a clean saucepan
  8. Over medium heat, cook till it is a velvety texture like custard and coats the back of a spoon
  9. Take off heat, place cling wrap directly on top to avoid a skin and refrigerate for 3 hours or overnight
  10. Churn in an ice cream machine according to instructions – once made, chop up another 150g of Oreos and stir them through the ice cream. Freeze or eat on the spot 🙂

    It’s been so long since i ate an Oreo. I definitely need to change that…. the double stuffed centres, argh! Drooling right now! I didn’t watch a smidgeon of the tennis this year but I definitely understand the fascination with the… ahem… handsomeness. I’d be the same. Now, back to the ice cream… do you home deliver? 😉

    At least you get seasons in Sydney – it’s eternal summer here in Singapore, which is fine when you come from somewhere like the UK where you see the sun for 4 weeks a year, but when you come from Sydney, I miss Winter the most. The fashion is so much better as well ! I live in an airconditioned apartment to mimic winter 🙂

    Today is our first day of Fall/Autumn here in the U.S. A cold one in the 50’s (fahrenheit). I love this kind of weather. No ice cream maker in this household, CCU, but I’m considering buying an expensive, high-class double chocolate ice cream and Double-Stuffed Oreos to break up and stir into the softened ice cream. Hmmm, sounds so good.

    Uru, your Oreo infused / Oreo laden / Oreo eating while making it ice cream looks like the perfect cure for any kind of weather. We’re heading into Autumn here but it’s still 95 degrees every day… what IS up with that?! Anyhoo… sports make me snooze, too, but ice cream always holds my attention!

    What a FUN post, Uru. I am sooooo un-sports minded it’s terrible. But, my daughter, Michele is a huge fan and she actually told me who the winner was (even though I really didn’t want to know, lol:)

    Our weather report is: It’s beginning to feel and look like Fall. I hope you have a better Summer than we did. Except for a few days of unbearable heat, it’s been a very odd last two seasons. I think I will Howl at the full moon on Thursday just to wake Mother Nature up a bit:)

    Love the ice cream but weather wise we’ve had the opposite. One day we had Summer with temps in the 20s and the next day it was Autumn with mists and coolth of around 10degrees. Too sudden!

    Our weather is the complete opposite of yours. We are just leaving Summer, and heading into Fall. Last Tues it was 96F, and today it is 66F, I much prefer the cooler temps. Anyway, I could eat you amazing ice cream all year long.

    Uru!!! I’m drooling over here! Girl, i’m kinda glad you’re sweltering hot over there already because it inspired you to make this ridiculously delicious oreo ice cream! Not just any Oreos, double stuffed. As for crazy weather, Vancouver has had an unprecedented hot sunny summer with very little rain. It’s a miracle! Our September so far has been hot ‘n sunny too. I can’t believe it, but I’m not complaining because it’s extending ice cream season (although I admit to eating it year round. Ain’t no shame in that!). Love this!

    It’s 30 deg now in Sydney!!! Not fair! Melbourne is still cold and rainy!!! *sign*

    I’m happy that Nadal won!!! Djokovic is yucky! I don’t like him… When I can fit into a nice black dress (only if I can), the maybe sexy me will love to cheer for Nadal rather than chest-hitting Djokovic – LOL!

    Forget about the dress and tennis! Let enjoy the warm weather and ice cream 😀

    Yes it is amazing how quickly mother nature has turned up the suntanner on us all. Me thinks it’s a sneaky way of telling us to eat more ice-cream! This is the absolute perfect remedy and yes, I want the ability to enjoy both mouthfuls of that creamy goodness and the oreos in one big bite!
