Italy is renowned worldwide for its delicious traditional cuisine and Italian sweets and desserts are no exception to this rule. The country is celebrated for a number of delightful chocolatey and creamy desserts that are sure to make your mouth water and get your taste buds tingling. You can always try making them at home with a good recipe book; however nothing quite beats indulging in one or two or even all five during a fabulous Italian getaway! If you are planning a trip to Italy, check venere.com, where you will be able to organise your stay in a city such as Milan via this page. So here is a list of some of Italy’s best sweets and desserts to indulge in during your visit.

Tiramisù
Tiramisù is without a doubt one of Italy’s greatest culinary exports. The delicate flavours of sweetened mascarpone, coffee and chocolate combine to make a heavenly dessert fit for a king. This sweet is thought to have originated in the Veneto region of Italy and numerous variations with tasty ingredients such as strawberries and pistachios have since been created.

Gelato
Gelato is yet another Italian dessert that has thoroughly conquered the global market. It is creamier and softer than standard ice-cream and comes in a vast variety of scrumptious flavours. Gelaterias serving up homemade gelato tend to be the best and the most inventive and innovative when it comes down to exciting new flavours that are sure to go down a treat.

Cannoli
Cannoli originate from Sicily and are now one of the most popular takeaway desserts in the whole of Italy. They consist of a light and crispy pastry shell filled with ricotta or mascarpone cheese. Much like gelato or tiramisù, they can then be flavoured with a whole host of tasty treats including chocolate drops, pistachios and candied fruit.

Panna Cotta
Panna Cotta roughly translates into English as “cooked cream” and although many consider it to be a simple dessert, when cooked well it is absolutely divine. A traditional panna cotta is made with sugar, cream, milk and gelatine and will most likely be flavoured with vanilla or coffee and accompanied by a rich chocolate or caramel sauce and fresh fruit.

  1. Oh so beautiful! I would love to travel to Italy and experience the authenticity of eating these gorgeous desserts in combination with the richness of all that country has to offer, but I may need to settle for my local Italian bakery. Maybe I should make my own bakery tour and give them all a try. 🙂 That would be fun!
