UPDATE: Just clarifying that I have not made my likes page yet on facebook (which is why I have asked you all how to make it :D) and I will be posting up a link after I have done so ๐
The world is constantly changing, we are constantly aging and of course, ever since Einstein invented time, nothing will ever be able to stop, stay at a standstill, or at the very least, go slow motion style like in Matrix ๐
Anyhow, before I go ranting (again) and get off topic as I have a tendency to, there have been some major changes around. And I think almost 99% of you all are aware of it. Foodbuzz, the biggest and most awesomest food blogger sharing community is switching to DailyBuzz. Say what?
Ok, yes it will be fine but how can we see all the bloggers in the world now? It is such a wonderful feeling when waking up to go check Foodbuzz and see all these different and delicious posts. Makes me breakfast hungry ๐
I have put my application in to be a publisher for DailyBuzz, I am sure all of you have, but I never saw August 1st coming. It was unexpected and a change that threw me a little off. What, who and why?
This made me think. I subscribe to a lot of blogs. I am not getting into the nitty gritty. But I may or may not have added perhaps 20-30 more today. Wow. Yeah, I love you all ๐ – it was necessary (why must everyone cook so well!)
Anyway though, that is not the only change going on. See, the other day, I had lunch with Mark Zuckerberg, you know, casually as you do ๐
We were talking, eating pizza when he asked me ‘Why do you still not have Facebook?’ – I could see, considering he created it and it was kind of world famous and all, why he was hurt.
So I finally decided to end my procrastination, and for the blog, spend two-three hours getting FB, acting on the pact ๐
You all know what this means right???
I CAN LIKE YOUR BLOGS ON FACEBOOK ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐
So send one, send all, I want everyone’s Facebook links to like and follow ๐
In return for everything that has been done post FoodBuzz announcement, I request one favour…
- How do you get a likes page on Facebook?
- How do I connect my blog to said likes page on FB?
- Will you guys like me to? ๐
Zuckerberg, the rat, has a meeting to go to so he was no help at all. Psshaw. ๐
But I know I can count on you all!
*****************************************************************************
Ok, cool, so now on to the recipe part ๐
See there is another reason I was talking about changes. My friend, PDS, is going through, actually has just gone through, a HUGE change. She moved houses… 2 minutes away from me ๐
*excited* *excited* *excited*
A house move calls for major bedroom decoration decisions, lack of telephone lines, getting used to the random cat on the street AND HOUSEWARMING!
- Bring a cake
- Sit and talk
- Drive home
CCU & PDS Housewarming rules:
- Bring ice cream (because it actually won’t melt :D)
- Scream/laugh as means of communication (you have all heard teenage girls talk right?)
- Walk home (because it’s possible :D)
Disclaimer: PDS, I did have to taste your ice cream and pour on some fudge sauce and take photos but I promise you, I barely ate one spoonful… but it was really, really hard to stop ๐
So why did I choose the ice cream flavour I did?
- PDS absolutely loves bananas
- You all know Ben & Jerry’s no? Ice cream geniuses, gorgeous flavours and all that jazz ๐ – Well they have one flavour that I am really not a fan of. Chunky Monkey. I know, I know, banana ice cream with fudge chunks and walnuts, what is not to like?? But the banana taste is so artificial… eeyuck – so I made it my mission to recreate it with a big more BANG
- Hello, maybe you have forgotten but it is still National Ice Cream Month ๐ (sacrilege if you did!)
So voila, my own take on the famous roasted banana ice cream, mixed in with crushed walnuts and chocolate chips. Now this ice cream would attract a monkey (makes me see why we humans, their descendants, also crave it ;))
It is smooth and creamy but freezes like a rock (so be warmed, take it out 20-25 minutes before serving if not more, in winter). I left the ice cream banana base a little chunky because, well, yum ๐ but go ahead and puree it all up! The butterscotch roasted bananas are a dessert in themselves so as an ice cream, base work strong and deliciously. They compliment the chocolate chips and walnuts both texturally and taste-wise so win-win situation everywhere!
Happy Housewarming PDS & The S Family! Enjoy all the bananas you all desire ๐
Butterscotch Chunky Monkey
Loosely based on: This Recipe
Makes: 1 L
Ingredients:
Butterscotch Bananas (if you do not want to make ice cream, eat these hot with vanilla ice cream – YUM)
- 50g butter
- 4 large, super ripe bananas, sliced
- 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
- 2 tbs – 1/4 cup thickened cream
- 2 tbs golden syrup
Ice Cream
- 1/4 cup thickened cream
- 1 1/4 cup full cream milk
- 3 tbs caster sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla essence/butterscotch essence
- 1 1/2 tsp lemon juice
- Pinch of salt
Add Ins
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 2/3 cup chocolate chips
- Make the Butterscotch Bananas: In a large frypan, heat up on medium and add in butter until melted
- Mix through the brown sugar until combined and stir continuously till starts to bubble
- Add in golden syrup, turn down heat to medium low
- Add in bananas and cook for 1-2 minutes or until coated all over and caramelised
- Stir in cream and bring mixture to boil
- Remove from heat and cool
- Make Ice Cream: Place banana mixture, milk, cream, sugar, essence, lemon juice and salt into a food processor and process for 3-4 minutes or until completely smooth mixture (I left mine a little chunky :D)
- Pour mixture into ice cream machine and churn according to manufacturer’s instructions
- Stir through the nuts and chocolate chips after finished churning
- Freeze in a container or enjoy soft serve style! ๐
Next Time:
- I may not add the extra cream into the bananas since they were so deliciously caramelised and coated before and their syrup was already thick enough ๐
*****************************************************************************With all these changes going on, I almost forgot, I have awards to hand out ๐ ๐ ๐
Firstly, I was lucky enough to receive The Lovely Blog Award from a sweet friend, Pooja over at Saffron N Appetite! If you have never visited, I promise you, her blog will blow you away – full of delicious meals and treats ๐
Secondly, another awesome blogging buddy from the times of Foodbuzz, namely Becky from Baker Becky, awarded me with the Addictive Blog Award! When she says baker, she means baker! So many cute and delicious treats, I want to literally eat her entire blog ๐
Thanks so much to both you guys, it means a lot ๐
Since I have already told you my life’s story in this post atm ;), check out this post and this post to see the requirements of each award ๐
Now drum roll for the nominees:

Sorry, I am very unhip and I know nothing about FB. It will be interesting to see how DailyBuzz works out. But, that ice cream sundae?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Unbelievable. That, my friend, worked out fine!

HaHa! This weekend, I’ve been working on an ice cream-banana combo too. So I guess we’re still sharing a brain (for ice cream) ๐ Love the idea for butterscotch bananas (could eat that straight from the pan).
I have a Facebook page, Pinterest board, and twitter account for my blog. I think giving people multiple following options has widened my range of readers, as not everyone uses WordPress or wants to receive an email every time a post is published. It doesn’t seem to require a lot of attention, so you should definitely give it a try.

Your icecream looks so amazing! I also think that the world is moving towards so many different types of social media that in one way it is very nice but in one way very difficult to consult with so many different locations to catch up with those we follow. In a perfect world we would all be in just one place. I have a facebook account a twitter and pin interest and just now have taken a dabble in Food buzz. I love keeping in touch with everyone but sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming.

If it wasn’t almost one in the morning, I’d be down in my basement digging out my ice cream maker. I MUST make this ice cream for my ponytails — as it has all their favourite flavours. Yum, yum, yum. Did you say hi to Mark for me?

Too funny! Just got an ice cream maker in the mail Friday and made my first batch today. Husband loved it and then said: “you know what would be even better? Banana ice cream” so, I have looked for a recipe all day and when I finally get on the computer tonight………..here is your post! It will be perfect sans the nuts – he doesn’t like nuts. Thank you! I”m glad you will be on FB – here’s my address: https://www.facebook.com/Kalamitykelli?ref=hl
So copy and post it into your browser. Or, if that doesn’t work, in the search line put in Kalamitykelli and my wonder woman pix will appear! Can’t wait to see you on there – KK

Don’t get me started on FB! I’m so pissed at it right now that I’m ready to shutdown my page. Most bloggers have a page for their websites, not personal blogs. The recent thing that really has me ticked off is that FB is now charging pages $5 per post for ALL of your LIKES to see the post. It currently is only sending out the post to a select few. That sucks! I was wondering why I no longer see the posts of most of the pages I have LIKED. O.K – enough of my rant! Chunky Monkey is my favorite Ben&Jerry’s! I absolutely LOVE the caramel banana twist ! I’ve got to make this!!!!!

Oh wow, CCU! First of all, your ice cream and the photos look just amazing. Really major delish. You are so creative and talented. Second of all, I have a facebook fan page too. Living in the San Francisco area as I do, Mark (Zuckerberg) and I hang together a lot, and i can tell you the nice thing is now when you do a blog, you can post it to your fan page timeline and get more viewership. I’ll go now and like your fan page. To switch accounts for leaving comments and fanning/friending someone, just go to the Home button at the top right corner and on the little drop down menu, you can switch back and forth as you please. On my way to Like you right now. Mine is http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Wimpy-Vegetarian/140612416040086. And lastly, but certainly not leastly, THANK YOU so much for the awards. I really appreciate it and am so glad you’ve enjoyed my blog.

PDS and CCU… you lucky pair hanging out together.. and walking distance, no less! I have facebook.. apparently now you have to pay to have more than 50 people (your “Like” followers) receive your updates.. or something like that?? I’m not 100% sure about all of it. I’ve got one and would love to add you.. but I continue to just post my blog posts on my regular Facebook as so many friends are too lazy to go to my Page and “Like”.. (or they don’t know how… we are older than you kids, you know;). I very rarely look at other posts on Facebook, which is why my followers haven’t really grown. I really love Pinterest, it’s simplicity and the lack of requirement to pin each other makes it much more relaxing. Twitter.. I have grown over the year.. but had to make “Lists” or I would lose the people I know.. like my local friends and my wordpress friends… xoxo Smidge

There aren’t enough hours in my day to keep in touch with people on FB, Twitter, blogs, LJ etc and still expect to do all the things I normally do in the real world so I’ve made a choice. LJ and a limited number of blogs. No Pinterest either. Cause I want to actually HAVE a life to talk about. ๐ So, I won’t be friending you on FB, nor following you on Twitter etc. Don’t be sad. I still like you … for real.
No more ice cream making for a while. I’m making Tex-Mex food today with the last of the breast from the 12 pound turkey I roasted a month ago. A big pot of turkey stock using the carcass is in the works for next week. ๐

You make an account on facebook (for you) and then you create a “page” for the blog. Then you can switch back and forth doing things as yourself or as the blog. To “like” other pages, make sure you are using fb as ur blog page and go to a url of a page you want to like (mine is http://facebook.com/TheCookingActress) and there will be a like button…click it ๐
