The Sexy Vegan Kitchen #1: Wistful Walnut-Pear Salad

Ok, so just before I begin this post, I have two things to share with you, my lovely readers 🙂

  1. I reached 1000 subscribers… yesterday! 😀
I know, I know, when compared to some of you big bloggers out there, this does not even compare but I am so excited to reach my first 4 digit number! Of course, it is all thanks to you all and the fact that you take your time out to read my recipes and my ridiculous thoughts which appear in every post, and I could not be more appreciative.

Fairly odd parents? Who even needs you

Fairly odd parents? Who even needs you

You can’t see me right now, obviously, but I am holding up my waterbottle to you all! Thank you thank you thank you 😀

  2. In my last post, I got the impression that I accidentally gave you the impression that my onslaught of brilliant guest posts would be starting now. Not to disappoint but I am still here 🙂 – for another 2 or 3 weeks, before my exams do start – I just wanted to let you know my posting would be erratic because I am studying my butt of as well right now 😀

Cool, now shall we start with the post? I reckon I have a helluva lot of explaining to do considering you saw the word salad and vegan in my title, two things not usually associated with my blog… Allow me to explain 😛

********************************

So a couple of weeks ago, Aimee Hughes contacted me. A blogger from The Sexy Vegan Kitchen, she had released a new cookbook and asked me to review it! So I have decided to make 3 or 4 (depending on my time) recipes from her cookbook before giving it an overall review! 🙂

The name of Aimee’s fantastic cookbook is The Sexy Vegan Kitchen: Culinary Adventures In Love & Sex, and just like the title tells us, she does mix together the euphoric nature of sex with the deliciousness of her recipes to create a completely foodgasmic experiences, just begging you to read it and make its recipes!

In a couple of recipes time, I shall tell you a little about what this book offers,  the way it allows you to heal your skills in your love life and health life 😀 – But shhhh, … Spoilers… (If you understand this reference to Doctor Who, you and I are already best friends by the way, not optional :D)

Enjoy the foodgasmic journey Aimee takes us on!

Introducing: Patricia Dean-Escoto & (Another) Giveaway (Closed)

*Just a quick note – if anyone wants to guest post for my blog in August, please email me and let me know, I have a couple lined up but some more never hurt when taking exams 😛 – email me at gobakeyourself@yahoo.com.au*

Now, let us begin this post… enjoy! 🙂

Ok, so do you remember meeting Ms Gluten-Free Machine, Lorna Foreman?
Well, allow me to introduce you another fantastic author – Ms Patricia Dean-Escoto – HOW COOL IS MS DEAN-ESCOTO’S NAME? 😀

But more than the name, more than the cool, it is what Ms DE is trying to promote around the world, and that is preventing cancer, specifically breast. Let me give you some stats:
*Taken from Cancer Australia*

  1. In 2010 in Australia, Breast Cancer was the second leading cause of female deaths by cancer, accounting for 15.3%
  2. In 2009, it was recorded that the likelihood of developing breast cancer before the age of 85 years old was 1 in 8 women
  3. In 1982, the number of breast cancer patients was 5,317 – in 2009, it was 13,668

Is it our environment? Is it natural in humans? What is causing this increase?

For now, cancer is threatening, it is a disease which takes lives easily, it is the stark truth of the matter. While we wait for a drug to be made which will forever eradicate the fatality associated with it, we have to take care of ourselves and promote and encourage our community to as well. This is why I am so proud to be hosting Ms DE, who is promoting this through her wonderful new book, Top Ten Superfoods For Preventing Breast Cancer.

Hello all, I thought I would mix it up a little and give you a taste of something you are not used to on this blog. Health 😉 – Please welcome Tracy Rose, who has been so kind as to write up an incredible post about those with Type II diabetes and even include a delicious pizza recipe mixed with Mexican! To learn more, please visit Health Line!

For some people, the doctor’s diagnosis of type II diabetes is like being told they will never be able to enjoy any food again. After all, giving up sugary sweets can be hard, especially if you love cakes, chocolates, and pastries. However, just because you found out you are diabetic doesn’t mean you have to give up everything you love. There are plenty of tasty foods that you can still enjoy. All you have to do is change how you think about your meals and foods. With simple changes, you can still say “yum” when you pick up the fork or spoon.

So, who do we have totally awesome guest poster #1? Ms Mimi from Chef Mimi Blog! This chef has pizzazz if I may say so, the magic in the hands to toss together simple ingredients and create something incredible from it – Trust me I have stalked… errr… ‘read many of’ her recipes 😛

Starting us off with a classic favourite dinner (lunch or breakfast too I suppose) for all, please welcome Mimi and her fabulous (and a little naughty!) Pasta Puttanesca!

************************************************************

One of my guilty pleasures is eating Pasta Puttanesca.  I’m not too sure why, because there’s nothing “sinful” about it.  Maybe it’s the history behind the name “puttanesca,”, having to do with Italian prostitutes.  (I think Nigella Lawson refers to it as “Slut’s Pasta!”)

Dear Popeye…

Dear Popeye,

How I feel sorry for the children of the today subjected to crap like iCarly and Victoria Justice. How is that even a TV show as opposed to screaming, crazy pre-teens with canned laughter? I could go to a One-Direction concert and it would be more enjoyable to view it there :S

I suppose I am really writing to you to tell you about the cartoons. It will hit you harder considering… well… you are one… but I hope you understand that I just need to tell you that wherever you are, you make sure that none of the modern-stuff ever even comes in contact with you. Imagine if you went all HD and animated. I shudder to think of it!

Popeye my old sea-dog friend, there is no more Warner Brothers style Flintstones or Road Runner or Bugs Bunny unless you watch the reruns on the 90s channel. There is no more ‘Steamboat Willie’ with film-noir Mickey, or even any 2D versions of the Disney gang left I believe. Just the odd reruns of the Princesses because little girls still love them so much. Though for how long is my question…

CCU Undercover: Taste Of Malaya

So, CCU was reviewing her own reviews (ironic no?) and was a little devastated. She had yet to under-18-wine and dine at an Asian restaurant. She started imagining noodles, Szechuan sauce and hot, steamy spring rolls. Yep, definitely not good enough on her part. Dragging along her mum (have you met CCU senior? Ok senior is a little drastic, I can imagine her shock right now ;), CCU rushed over to the nearest fabulous Asian restaurant she knew and loved.

Rushed as in after 2 hours of dress shopping… 😉
