A Breakfast Introduction To Nutella Baking Week

A big and fat welcome to all of you to my first ever Nutella Baking Week!!! *Applause Machine*

This week, it is obviously all about Nutella. Nutella in all different forms, different dishes and always the star ingredient of whatever dish I make. This is a week to commemorate this great gift Italians have so kindly given to the world.

I don’t actually have any sponsors or anyone but I would like to say a few words before this week begins to commemorate a few people and their sites that deserve mention due to their wonderful Nutella obsession.

A Very Merry Holiday With A Hot Fudge Sundae

Well, here we are at the end of 2011. What has happened for me?

  • I started this blog (YAY)’
  • I had my year 10 formal (woohoo!)
  • I turned 16 (the age of party, driving etc.)
  • I explored and became part of my baking – it is no longer a hobby, it is in my blood 🙂

Sounds like a pretty satisfying year to me? But what about you my dear readers – this year came and went so quickly – what happened for all of you? A marriage, a family addition? A celebration of some sort?

I am sure that whatever happened, 2011 was a year of goodwill, cheer and fabulous times for all of you – how else could it possibly have gone so fast?

Now, I do believe the Aztecs have predicted that the end of world is upon us in 2012. Specifically, “The Mayan calendar comes to an end on Sunday, December 23, 2012”http://www.greatdreams.com/end-world.htm
How creepy that that is exactly 1 year and 1 day away!!! *Shudders*

Happy Birthday Baba 2011

Today was a very special  day – my grandpa grew one year older 🙂
Everyone loves birthdays and my grandpa is someone who doesn’t seem to ever spoil himself – this year I decided to spoil him for him! (Not that I didn’t last year with that Carrot Cake of mine :P)

Anyway, it is not easy I suppose to spoil him though because chocolate is a very rare treat which he enjoys off occasion, but usually not a lot of. And if you know anything about me, by now which you do, I have to say that my most decadent dishes are essentially all chocolate based (perhaps my secret OCD – no, not secret I agree…)

18So then I went to my greatest source, Exclusively Food, to find a non-chocolate recipe which was still decadent and worth spoiling my sweet granddaddy with and surprisingly, came away with this fruity, one bowl (so to speak) and quite light dessert: An Apple Blueberry Crumble Cake.

Less Than 2 Minutes = Nutella Muffin

Still sick today!!! And I missed out giving Ms D her melting moments at her surprise party 😦

And just now, I had a Nutella craving – but seriously, who can be bothered to whip up Nutella brownies or Nutella crème brulee or something! Forgive me Bell’Alimento but not all of us have a Nutella cooking gene of creativity!!!

So then I thought and pondered and definitely wanted more than just banana in Nutella or spoon in Nutella (hehehe…) and then it hit me! I had a single muffin – no, sorry, a SINGLE LADY muffin recipe stored away after a long scour through healthy dessert addict, Chocolate Covered Katie’s, blog.
What I loved about her posts on these muffins was that they were healthy as sin with just about no sugar (1 tbs sugar is how much people put in their coffee or something!) or sugar substitutes, no butter (which I continued in my adapted recipe) and basically nothing which can cast your thighs in the spotlight while still delivering a sneaky hit – cool huh?

11Best part was that it was a microwave recipe and I love microwave recipes! If you are sick and sore but want something a bit more extravagant look no further than here folks – this takes even less time than the 5 minute chocolate cake recipe!!!

Hummingbird Meets Cake

Before animal rights activists come rushing at me with pitchforks or there is any other sort of misunderstanding, let me make one thing title – no birds were harmed in the making of this cake.

There were no shootings or other illegal activity of that kind or boiling in a witches cauldron – after all, I myself am a vegetarian 🙂

45The title is simply a small, feeble attempt at comedic wordplay by yours truly because what I made next today is called a Hummingbird Cake. I found this recipe during my extensive searches of the one and only Exclusively Food (I swear, if I keep going at this rate, I will end up making all of their sweet recipes and even many savouries!) and it stood out to me because

Disaster With Brownies + Happy Birthday CG 2011

Let me tell you how it all began – I knew I wanted to make CG brownies – she covets them she does and whenever I am food blog searching at school during English or Science etc (give me a break, all my exams are over and the next 2 years are not the definition of fun!), CG is my partner in crime, especially brownies!

5So how could I not try to find only the most fabulous brownie recipe ever for her birthday?

And I did – but it turned out to be one of the biggest disaster recipes for me ever! I don’t understand, I followed the recipe to the T and the batter didn’t bake – at all. And it was for cream cheese snickers brownies…

Diwali Baking #4

I have a tendency to go overboard. Whether it be decorating, amount of time spent on hair, listening to a single song. I always go overboard.

While this may not always be a good thing, it certainly is in cooking. I go overboard with the amount of time I spend on cooking, the amount of time I recipe hunt and I am generous in regards to essences and add-ins. This is what made this cake such a good choice. And I think I can definitely go overboard for the family receiving it. They are awesome (and have a very adorable dog :))

A Girl Needs Her Rum?

I suppose a girl does when it comes in a cake like this… it is rich, moist and a little bit naughty – nah, I’m kidding, its rum essence 🙂

Rum essence really kicks up the whipped cream layer of this cake – it does add extra flavour and matches really well with the orange and chocolate cakes throughout this cake – YUM!

Now the frosting for this cake, please use all of it otherwise you will end up like me – I KID YOU NOT but I did manage to eat AT LEAST 1 cup of frosting – oh yeah, it was so pure, sweet and chocolate-y…

Without further ado ladies and gents, I give YOU (yep lucky you) this recipe for RUM LAYER CAKE! Wait no, there is further ado – A little warning that the cakes my cooking partner and I made were a little well, um cracked so after splitting and layering we managed but the cake was almost about the fall and crack and splosh down… BUT I will make sure you won’t have any disasters (and ours looked nice inside!) AND teach you how to make chocolate leaves 😀

Fond-[ant]-ly Remembering Christmas 2010

Actually Written: Term 4 2010

At the end of 2010, our food tech class went absolutely nuts! My teacher is brilliant, creative and totally not lazy so she organised a ton of awesome
Christmas cooking activities! Thank You, Mrs D!!!

One such was a Christmas fruitcake (non-alcoholic ;P)
It was such a cute, adorable little baby with a brilliant recipe (we gave the pretty cake to our neighbour so I only tasted the batter – not really a shame)
The fondant rolling, colouring and just general working was absolutely brilliant though!!! It was such a new experience that was messy and all hands-on (a.k.a I
LOVED IT!)
