Story Time, Story Time!

No, I am not a little child excited to be put to sleep by hearing Cinderella’s fairytale. I am excited to tell YOU all a very Indian story today!
For once (mind you, once only ;)), you do not have to bear my atrociaous plot lines like here and here because I am going to share with you one of my favourite stories EVER which is just so appropriate for what I have made to share with you all today!

It’s from an Indian comic book that I must have gotten maybe when I was 8-9 and kept for another 8, almost 9 years now (scary thought!) 😀
They are funny, classic and witty and I just can’t help but love them – I hope you do too!!!

The name’s Cake. Cheese Cake.

Can I trust you?

That is the question I should be asking you.

*disgruntled* I am trustworthy. I’m Chocolate, for heavens sake!

Stop being everyone’s friend. Be our friend. Cocoa Powder has told me all about you. You will be a great asset.

Asset to what? *exasperated*

Vanilla Maple Caramel Popcorn: My Guest Post

Good morning, afternoon, evening, twilight to all!

No matter which country, which culture, there is one thing that connects the human race. Our love of movies.

Honestly, can you tell me you don’t enjoy flopping down, shutting the doors on your phone and email before having a garbage can’s worth of popcorn while sniffing into tissues in front of a nice big screen? No? I really didn’t think so 😀

Well then, today is a very important post for you.

No joke I get a little bit excited (and a little bit hyper) because

  1. There are chocolate bunnies, eggs, carrots, designs etc. as far as the eye can see in every window display
  2. Easter Warehouses open which are long endless rows of chocolate!
  3. I am eating chocolate as I type

Nutella Baking Week Finale: Nutella Crème Brulee

Alack and alas, all good things must come to an end. And as far as good things go, this week has to be absolutely one of the best. Like the chocolate chip cookie dough baking week started at the beginning of my summer holidays (can you believe I only have 1 week – ONE week!!!), this week has shown me that Nutella is really better than just in a toasted sandwich or on toast.

The variety with which one can eat this spread is astounding, and once more, we thank the Italians for introducing us to yet another fabulous food to tingle our tastebuds.
But fun fact: Pizza was originally from Greece, just a baked piece of stale bread with olive oil and herbs on it for the working class. When Queen Margherita of Italy came to Greece, she liked the taste so much that the original Margherita pizza was made for her and she took it back to Italy, who have forever increased the range since 😀

A Mini That Packs Punch

I know I promised lemons and coconut, and that is coming today just a little later… bear with me please 🙂

*****************************************************************************

They say good things come in small packages. Well!!!
I am not exactly small and petite (rather tall and ahem… :P) so I would like to meet ‘them’ – you know, whoever the jealous person/people was/were of us taller folk.

In order to get my own back whenever this phrase has been flung in my face, this is my immediate retort: “Better things come in large packages” – take that!

42However, today, for the first time, I am beginning to doubt my own philosophy – no, no, do not get overly excited, it remains the same when it comes to people – I mean in terms of my baking.

Macaron Madness + Homemade Caramel

This post is actually written 1st December – I think WordPress is in American settings and I cannot be bothered to change it 🙂

*Cough* *Cough*

*Sniffle*

Hello all, here I am home sick from school with a lot to tell. But before let me tell you two things

  1. It is the 1st of December – THE JOLLY SEASON IS OFFICIALLY HERE!
  2. It is good to get sick before your formal – formal countdown = 11 days to go!!!

Ok cool, now I can tell you all about everything. Yesterday after school, my awesome cooking teacher Ms D held a Macaron Baking Afternoon! Just like the meringue tower and the fruitcake, this was also an end of year finale event, and although only 4 of us students were able to make it, it was fantastic!
She had set out an array of different colourings and essences (dudes, I am talking apricot colours, coffee coloured with brandy essence – whatever you wanted to make and mess with people’s minds!!!) and our task was:

ATTEMPT TO MAKE A MACARON TREE!

114Yes, that is correct, you heard me right BUT…

‘Someday We’re Gonna Get So Highhhhh…’

Actually Made: 9th November 2011

Well, I am back luckily in the middle of the week once more to show you guys a little bit of poshness – a soufflé.

Yes I know, so sophisticated, a baker’s horror etc. but seriously this is truly a simple dessert (after all, we made during school and managed to get out during recess – so cannot be too hard!)

15

Ms D told us some really cool facts about soufflés:

  1. A traditional soufflé is made by mixing a sweetened roux sauce (a flour and fat based French sauce) into stiff egg whites to give it a total air factor
  2. By greasing the ramekins with butter and sugar instead of butter and flour, the upper ‘crown’ or crust which forms above the ramekin will have a nice crustiness to it (before deflation of course) 😛

Psshaw to the Eiffel Tower Christmas 2010

Actually Written: Term 4 2011

A Coles recipe gone brilliantly right!!! Awww, no that’s mean, a LOT of Coles recipes are good (like the mousse cake), just some I always
find very weird…

Anyway back to this AMAZING Meringue Tower. So easy. So stunning. So cool. So stare-worthy. Yeah, you know it’s true. Basically, we cut
out a cone shape from an A3 sized cardboard sheet (make sure the cone has a level base), stuck it on a box-thick cardboard slate covered with aluminium and
voila, we are ready to stick. Now we made 1 colour meringues, and used/ate m&ms, maltesers, smarties – any chocolate candy really. On top of the cone, we nipped of the tip and forced the
stand of a Christmas decoration on top for a tree-like effect (not that such a
tree would ever even last till Christmas Morn…)
