Plotting Against Myself

The filling in this tart is incredible. I mean, I have made it before, but I don’t I appreciated just how magnificent a frangipane filling is. And no, I do not mean my favourite flower (that has an ‘i’ not an ‘e’ at the end). The tart pastry is sweet and crumbles slightly when you cut it. It gives a bit of textural contrast against the melt-in-mouth almond filling, which is not gooey, but very soft after baking.

Almost imagine sweet shortbread with an under baked sponge cake on top. Gosh, it is hard to explain. Then in comes the slight tartness of the plums, whose juices are already running a little throughout the tart as well as from the icing sugar, and then the flavours explode in your mouth. Gorgeous 🙂

Welcome 2015!

Another year down, another year past, another year done and dusted. Congrats everyone 😀

In the words of the immortal Queen ‘another one bites the dust’. And you ALL came out on top 😉

I probably going to sound like your parents when I say this, but this year seems to have gone by quicker than the past! I swear, it is incredible! Personally, I felt like I was a newbie at uni, and WHOOSH.

CCU Undercover Diary: Patisserie New York

CCU was ecstatic. Alicia Key’s ‘Empire State of Mind’ was pumping through her mind as she took bite out of, bite out of, bite out of each delicious creation placed in front of her.

With her cape flying behind her, she sugar rushed up, up and away… all the way to the delights of New York…

Happy Belated Birthday PDS!

Dear PDS (actually that sounds too much like GPS, I will call you Pie – it more than appropriate don’t you think considering this blog’s theme?)

Ok so let’s start again…

Dear Pie,

Firstly, I know that your birthday was actually the 2nd of September and right now, it is the 23rd. Your birthday marked the beginning of Spring and sun and fun so I am sorry I could not get you your present by then to celebrate because, as you know, we were studying biology/Facebook stalking + Youtubing Michael Jackson videos from that time on.

But now that it (the unmentionable period) is all over, I hope you enjoyed your tart. Do you want to know why I made chose this dessert this year for you?

Traditions Of March #1

March is a very festive month for me. It starts off for one thing with National Peanut Butter Day so you kind of already can guess it is a little more explosive than other months which start of normally… pfft…

Golden Delicious :)

Golden Delicious

It is also the month for National Pi (e) Day, which I will of course also be commemorating in due time. Just guess, guess what day it falls on (for those who have long since ditched maths, I say good for you and also, remember 3.14…? :P) – come to think of it, Pi is also 22/7 so shouldn’t the 22nd of July also be Pi (e) day? Look, if I must sacrifice myself and honour the holiday by making pie, I will. For the day. Not for me. Not at all 🙂

Happy Belated Anniversary To My Parents

What you learn to be the basis of a good marriage is often reflected by your parents. How they get along, work with each other as life partners is often subconsciously rubbed off on you and when your time comes, you try and act like that too. My time is very far off – it does not equal boy cooties (:P), more like a big framed picture of Leonardo Di Caprio from Titanic. Alright, if you insist I will hang that in my room.

But my parents, to me, seem like the perfect marriage. I don’t know if they believe in soul mates but I do and I know they are. They love each other, respect each other, regard each other and are the best of friends. And that is exactly what I wish to find someday. Leonardo was a little old but someday 😉

Happy 20th Anniversary Ma, Papa. If anyone deserves this tart it is you. The fact that you guys will willingly share this tart means you have the most solid of relationships.

1010

I can’t begin to express how much I learn from and keep learning from you guys – the way you tease each other. The way you let go of each others’ faults and work around it. The way you show much you care for one another through the little things you do. A surprise present. Making a favourite meal. Going down at midnight to get the other some cereal or a cucumber sandwich.

Happy Birthday Mumma 2012

My grandma is a chef. She does not work in a fancy-shmancy restaurant though she does have a second in charge under her (*ahem*, mother…) but if she wanted to, she most definitely could. 99% of the time, you cannot fault her cooking. It is pure, Indian goodness (can’t you just smell the curry from my kitchen?)

And, like most other grandmas, she was a darn good baker! (*ahem*, mother, you better brush up your baking skills in around 10 years time! :P) – Basically everyone I know has at least one grandmother who loved to bake. I think it is a grandma thing. And boy am I glad it is.

5Aren’t you? Can you not remember coming to visit or coming home to your grandmother whipping up, I don’t know, lamington balls, in your kitchen, which you ate so many of you felt sick afterwards but didn’t feel any regret? 😛
