Ma’s Birthday 2012 + CCU Undercover: Castle Taj

CCU had taken quite a break, but it was all in preparation for a mega event considering her dear mother’s birthday was on the horizon. She wasn’t choosing the location, obviously that was her mum’s choice, but she knew she had to be prepared to get her swami on and sift through a couple dozen saris for the big occasion… after all, she knew her ma well enough to know that there would be some curries to be reviewing very soon…

Wishing For Spring

We are finally in our last month of winter. So long tall naked trees all wrinkled and gnarly. Goodbye mittens, beanies and oversized furry jumpers. Au revoir warm pancakes and French toast in the morning. Actually, I will be generous. The last ones can stay 😉

I am feeling Springy. Yes, it is not even close to September but I think I may have caught the totally-clichéd-but-much-loved Spring fever. Admittedly I am not running around cleaning the house (because honestly, spring cleaning is what?) but I am certainly drifting off into daydreams of flowers, puppies and rainbows.

The Proud Moment

Update: Check out Kelli’s awesome National Can It Forward Day Post! Her e-book sounds fantastic!

*******************************************************************
In everything we do, anything we take part of, there is always one defining moment where you finish it, stand tall and say ‘I’m proud of myself.’

You could be the worst at it in the world, for example, someone you may know sucks at football, but even then, said anonymous person scored a goal for the first time – ultimate defining moment of pride 😀

Simple Pleasures Of Life

You remember when I tried to be silent and it did not work at all? Today I am going to try it again, not for my benefit or yours but to appreciate the simple pleasures of life. You know how some people just ask you to shut up stop talking and look at the world. Here’s looking at the world.

Now (soon), I am going to be the shut-upee stop talking FOR REAL for one post and make this a picture post which will uplift you, revive you and enchant you. Who can resist puppies with photoshopped eyes or a rainbow so vivid, you could actually find that pot of gold? 😀
The real pleasure in life no?

I totally took each one, they are from Google images but I hope you enjoy every single one.  I chose them because they made me laugh, smile or giggle and to me, nothing beats a good grin so I hope it gives a pleasure to you all too 🙂

Story Time, Story Time!

No, I am not a little child excited to be put to sleep by hearing Cinderella’s fairytale. I am excited to tell YOU all a very Indian story today!
For once (mind you, once only ;)), you do not have to bear my atrociaous plot lines like here and here because I am going to share with you one of my favourite stories EVER which is just so appropriate for what I have made to share with you all today!

It’s from an Indian comic book that I must have gotten maybe when I was 8-9 and kept for another 8, almost 9 years now (scary thought!) 😀
They are funny, classic and witty and I just can’t help but love them – I hope you do too!!!

A Mad Weekend

This weekend was mad in the kitchen. This weekend I baked two dishes and neither. one. had. chocolate.

It is not even a case of rustling up a one person dish for myself like my last post which was exploding chocolate-y goodness. I just did not bake with chocolate, my melts resting comfortably away in their pantry instead of screaming and running amuck like usual. Not that I would know of course 😉

And what is even more astounding that the cookie batch and the mini cakes batch would be perfect for a tea party. You know what else goes well with tea/hot chocolate, oh whoops there I go again, chocolate!

I feel my temperature running high, my head starting to spin – I simply must have been quite delusional as to do this to myself and to my family (who actually sacrilegiously prefer it this way!)

Loss of My Love – A Muffintopcookiecake Hybrid

Although Valentine’s day was roughly a week ago, I have a story to tell you which I should have told you on that day. It is the story of a girl and a berry. And the true love they found in each other and the tragic consequences that followed. I believe Shakespeare has jinxed love forever with his Romeo and Juliet. A pox on you!

But let me go back to this tale. Girl was at a supermarket. She looked through a hole-y plastic bag which she accidentally (I call it fate really) picked up and through it, saw a little box. And that box had some cranberries in it. Big, fat, juicy dried cranberries. It called to her from beyond its plastic packaging and while the girl was a little apprehensive, she bought it.

310She got home and prised open the little plastic box. And when she truly met the dried cranberry, a little part of her heart she never knew she had opened up and started singing. And the love affair began. She kept it secret though – didn’t want anyone taking advantage of her weakness to the cranberry. And the cranberries remained sealed for everyone but her.

Girl decided it was time to honour their relationship – she created a recipe just to showcase the cranberry and to show how deeply she felt this bond, she made it red and white, colours of love.

Australia Day Festivities Begin

Coming up on the 26th of January is Australia Day!!! National holiday for all us Aussies, we whip out barbecues, beach umbrellas and cricket bats from dawn and celebrate with friends and family alike!

It is where people party and do whatever their heart desires to show both their Australian pride and enjoy themselves and that is what makes this so great! Everyone comes together under a big gold sun, shuffling their feet through soft green grass and wearing the green and gold so right for the occasion (really, no way!) 😉

Now I know there are some misconceptions out there about what Australians and Australia are really like. I guess every country has its stereotypical image, but I need to make a couple of things clear because seriously, this is our day of partying and I don’t want you to imagine bushwalkers waltzing with koalas around a billycan, beer bottles in hand 😀
