Combination Chocolate-y Celebrations

Warning: Before this post begins, please take into account that this post is extremely long, has two recipes involved and has an overdose of chocolate and photos

*****************************************************************************

Wow, it feels like such a long age since I last posted! Don’t be mad at me 😛 – After my last post which was delicious but healthy, sugarless and with a lack of chocolate, I knew my next post had to have a chocolate explosion – and what better way to do that I ask you than by doing a chocolate filled combination post??? 😀

64Willy Wonka: [hands Charlie a ladle full of chocolate] “Try some of this. It’ll do ya good. You looked starved to death!”

So where does the ‘celebration’ part of all this come into play? Well for one, my mummy is returning home after going overseas 😀
Finally, no more cleaning and dusting and cooking – jokes jokes (especially if you are reading this mum ;))

The Proper Way Of Dealing With School Blues

Before I begin this post, let me get one thing straight. I do not depression eat. But I am a baker (so you have seen throughout my holidays) and therefore am in dire need of relieving my deflated self at the thought of going back to school. And it is no longer just school. It’s senior school. And whoever I talk to jumps to the conclusion that being senior school, I am in for the tough.

I didn’t say Year 12, I said Year 11. Remember?

622But it does freak me out a little – a 17 year old me, peer support to little year sevens when I myself can remember that not-too-distance past? Hopefully getting my P-Plates. Ok, now I might need to eat because my heart rate has accelerated. Breathe… relax and remember – I can bake to relax 🙂

Elvis Meets Oreo at the Bottom of a Black Cupcake

What was so great about Elvis? Was it his oozing charm or his gel oozing quiff? Was it the fact that he could waggle his hips probably better than a lot of girls? Was it his, um, radical dance moves? Was it his voice which was so deep and melodious, it still makes you to want to glide with it?

Yeah, I think the answer is all of the above. He was after all The King. Full stop, no questions asked. But another thing he was famous for, a very well known thing actually (especially amongst us foodies) was his love for a special sandwich.

To be precise (ahem, Thomson without a ‘p’), a very special sandwich.

elvis-sandwich-courtesy-sodahead.com_

A sandwich slathered in peanut butter, overflowing with sliced banana and crispy fried bacon before the whole sandwich itself  was fried again in hot butter on a pan or griddle. Sounds a little, um, out there but these days everything is. In those days, nothing was except Elvis and what Elvis did was made law so this sandwich now still bears his name today – nice one 😀

What I Want For Breakfast, Lunch And Tea

Think back, think way back to when you were a kid – I am talking 7 or 8 years old. Weren’t parents so annoying?

“Drink your milk three times a day, eat your egg, eat your *shudder* soggy spinach and overcooked mushy peas!”

Oh, and in some classic Indian cases

“Have one more bowl of daal (lentils), eat more roti, you are a vegetarian AND therefore need more protein therefore let me overfeed you with beans and soya etc.”

Come to think of it, these are not way back memories for me at all, rather day to day occurrences. But let us get back to reminiscing… 😛
As a child, did you not want to fling down your spoon and retort back “I don’t wanna!”?
If you didn’t, either you were one very good child or had a tastebuds of steel or were just a little weird…

I ask you now? What did you ‘wanna’?

43I know I wanna-ed (actually, this is not talking past tense):

Chocolate Chip Baking Week 9: Chocolate Chip Cookie Milkshake (Thickshake)

I got the idea from here – those are some talented and creative cooks at Two Peas & Their Pod! But that is where the similarities end between my milkshake creation and theirs… and that is a good thing for me 😛

Let me put one thing straight – I cannot consider this a milkshake. This is a THICKSHAKE. My straw was having trouble slurping this up so I basically ended up scooping it out and eating it with a spoon – and it was so worth it! Vying for the ‘Most Creative Chocolate Chip Dough/Cookie’ section winner, I can’t say this beats that double chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream (perhaps since I am a little partial to ice cream…) but it came very close.

118See, I was a little apprehensive about this shake. Ever tried Max Brenner’s Cookie Shake? It tastes like Oreo cookies crumbled and drowned in a porridge consisting of rolled oats, weetbix and that gross Up ‘n’ Go! *Shudders*

Chocolate Chip Baking Week 8: Malted Milk Powder Chocolate Chip Cookies

117
I know it says published 19th December but here in Aus it is the 20th – how time travel style, Doctor Who cool is that!

Sorry, but being the child I am, I sometimes have to let all my pent up festive excitement out (as seen through the way I devour fruit mince pies, tear open presents in a frenzy, adore the secrets of Kris Kringle and love watching Christmas themed reruns of Sabrina the Teenage Witch…)

Back to the post now…

216What is malted milk powder? On stumbling on this chocolate chip cookie recipe, that was the first thing that hit me. See, Australia is kind of a baking goods hole a.k.a you can find no toffee chips, or Reese’s special hot fudge topping etc. unless you go to specialty shops in the city or further beyond. No wonder I had never heard of this thing before!

Chocolate Chip Baking Week 7: Thick And Cakey Chocolate Chip Cookies

I am asking you a very personal question – have you ever had that dream where you are eating a giant marshmallow but on waking, are actually chewing on your pillow? No?

Good because obviously neither have I. But I believe now that should I ever happen to have this dream (stranger things have happened, I assure you!), it won’t be a giant, fluffy marshmallow I am devouring. It will be this cookie, only ultra mega-sized.

215I kid you not, this cookie has simply taken up the position as winner of the Thick and Cakey section as if it was born to be there. And as its name suggests, it obviously was. When you bite into one of these darlings, it feels as if your teeth are chomping through a never ending bite of soft, chewy cookie dough pillow. It delivers twice the POW of a normal cookie due to the extraordinary thickness.

Chocolate Chip Baking Week 6: Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream

“Baby, you light up my world like nobody else”

My latest obsession of a song, it totally conveys my emotions felt towards this ice cream. Ever since formal, this song has been running through my head on repeat and when I made this ice cream, I felt like screaming this song into the sky. No joke.
The only difference is that this song definitely knows it’s beautiful. It ain’t looking at the ground (that would be sacrilege) and it doesn’t have hair to flip (uh, gross?) and boy, can everyone in the room see that it is beautiful.

63Needless to say, this has kicked out the delicious Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cupcakes out of the ‘Most Creative Chocolate Chip Dough/Cookie’ category because, honestly, I don’t think anything could ever compete. Or, perhaps eating this ice cream on top of the Mini Chocolate Chip Cheesecakes could 😛

Chocolate Chip Baking Week 5: Chocolate Chip Mini Cheesecakes

These gorgeous babies were included in this baking week as vying for a part in the ‘Most Creative Use Of Chocolate Chip Cookie/Dough’. No, they did not win at all, beating the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cupcakes was a hard call but I do believe next time I make them, things might get a little heated between the two – and I assure you there will be a next time 🙂

214The only real contribution made concerning chocolate chip cookies or their dough when I made this was really only crushing up the Mrs Field’s version of my first chocolate chip cookie tried (the last remaining after my brother and his mates happily polished off the rest :P) in the crust and adding chocolate chips into the batter, as the name suggests.
