Nutella Baking Week Continued: Nutella Kheer (Rice Pudding)

It’s time to vitalise, rejuvenise and exercise and… wait. Who am I kidding? It feels like it’s 100 degrees (C) here!!! Sorry, the word I was trying to find was

It’s time to traditionalise 😀

How could this Nutella baking week even think to continue without putting in a total desi (Indian word for patriotic) dish right? So I had a trawl through the web, searching for all the favourites like gulaab jamun and rasgulla and even laddoo, putting a ‘Nutella’ in front. I won’t say there were no entries but certainly none I deemed trustworthy. And none that had any pull or persuasive food photos. Boring!

510Finally, I came to kheer, and from memory, Google came up with an error. I was about to give up on this idea of mine when I realised that the Western world did have their own versions of something called rice pudding. And rice pudding is kheer. For crying out loud, I have seen pumpkin kheer (I mean rice pudding :P)

Nutella Baking Week Continued: 4 Ingredient Nutella Brownie Bites

Today was one very hectic day I must say 🙂

Which is why to continue with this glorious week, I decided on making a recipe I had coveted for many a moon and was super simple.

This takes

  • 2 minutes to mix
  • 41010 minutes to bake
  • 3 seconds to eat (if you are a slow eater of course :P)

Three of the ingredients are something every baker keeps in their pantry – flour, eggs and Nutella. The hazelnuts, our fourth ingredient, is really quite optional.

Nutella Baking Week Continued: Nutella Chocolate Molten Lava

Yesterday I kick-started this Nutella week into drive (I’m a Learner right now – sheepishly proud :P) with some delicious breakfast scrolls. Today, I am giving you the antithesis of breakfast – a dessert – but by NO means, am ending this week yet. Nice right? 🙂

Warning: If the name has not already given you a heart attack, the following post contains explicit images and strong descriptive language. Not recommended for persons under the age of 5 (guaranteed sugar rush) or over 85 (delicate body systems)

58I think this warning still leaves a lot of leeway for you wonderful people who read my blog 🙂

Now back to this dish. An original Bell’Alimento, this dessert (recipe here) should be knighted. It has a slightly crisp yet fragile and crumby exterior which gives way to the slightest pressure with a spoon to release the molten flowing Nutella lava. It languidly flows all over the plate, soaking into its protective shell of a cake, softening it so it becomes like cake crumbs swimming through chocolate fudge.

A Breakfast Introduction To Nutella Baking Week

A big and fat welcome to all of you to my first ever Nutella Baking Week!!! *Applause Machine*

This week, it is obviously all about Nutella. Nutella in all different forms, different dishes and always the star ingredient of whatever dish I make. This is a week to commemorate this great gift Italians have so kindly given to the world.

nutella

I don’t actually have any sponsors or anyone but I would like to say a few words before this week begins to commemorate a few people and their sites that deserve mention due to their wonderful Nutella obsession.

My Favourite Brownie Gone Oreo

This is an impromptu post. Something totally unplanned, impulsive and absolutely as far from my usual personality as it can possibly get. But I deserved it, I personally think.

As far as my holidays go, today was a so-so day. I suffered moments of intense frustration and lip biting and I slipped three times slightly in my driveway. I did cut a beautiful fruit salad to serve up to 35 people, but that was about the top of my day. Until around 2 hours ago.
I’m sure though that you don’t want to keep hearing about my day (especially today) so I am going to get straight to the point. It wasn’t the best until 2 hrs ago. And I deserved to get it back up to my holiday standard.

Now moving on… 🙂

I have posted a couple of different brownie recipes before. There was this one and this one and then a couple of fancier ones with one of the ones mentioned before turning into this one and a beautiful creation of this one. Yes, satisfy your curiosity and visit these ones. You won’t regret it.

Burning And Berries

Today, the weather is scorching. I am talking hitting up in the 30s, flies galore and my feet unable to touch the pavement.

Pool, fans, ice cold water – it is all useless today and though I was planning on pulling down my Christmas tree today, it just didn’t happen. These hot days make me want to sit around with the AC on full blast while I eat thick juicy grapes and ice cream with no limit.

I am feeling so lazy today that I am not even posting this blog post till now, when I actually should have done it at least 4 hours ago. I had the pictures (which were taken quite quickly due to the unbearable heat) ready to go and when I sat down on my laptop, BAM – I fell asleep *smiles sheepishly*

15Anyway, this very UV morning, I was lounging around, enjoying a bowl of ripe, sweet strawberries when it hit me. It hit me with fever so hot it was if I had swallowed the sun which is currently outside my window. I wanted perfectly creamy strawberry ice cream.

What I Want For Breakfast, Lunch And Tea

Think back, think way back to when you were a kid – I am talking 7 or 8 years old. Weren’t parents so annoying?

“Drink your milk three times a day, eat your egg, eat your *shudder* soggy spinach and overcooked mushy peas!”

Oh, and in some classic Indian cases

“Have one more bowl of daal (lentils), eat more roti, you are a vegetarian AND therefore need more protein therefore let me overfeed you with beans and soya etc.”

Come to think of it, these are not way back memories for me at all, rather day to day occurrences. But let us get back to reminiscing… 😛
As a child, did you not want to fling down your spoon and retort back “I don’t wanna!”?
If you didn’t, either you were one very good child or had a tastebuds of steel or were just a little weird…

I ask you now? What did you ‘wanna’?

43I know I wanna-ed (actually, this is not talking past tense):

Happy Birthday Mumma 2012

My grandma is a chef. She does not work in a fancy-shmancy restaurant though she does have a second in charge under her (*ahem*, mother…) but if she wanted to, she most definitely could. 99% of the time, you cannot fault her cooking. It is pure, Indian goodness (can’t you just smell the curry from my kitchen?)

And, like most other grandmas, she was a darn good baker! (*ahem*, mother, you better brush up your baking skills in around 10 years time! :P) – Basically everyone I know has at least one grandmother who loved to bake. I think it is a grandma thing. And boy am I glad it is.

5Aren’t you? Can you not remember coming to visit or coming home to your grandmother whipping up, I don’t know, lamington balls, in your kitchen, which you ate so many of you felt sick afterwards but didn’t feel any regret? 😛
